OVERVIEW, TERMS & CONTACT INFO
KLEx – ReLEx SMILE is a minimally invasive laser vision correction procedure for myopia and astigmatism. It reshapes the cornea through a small incision without creating a flap. As a result, many patients achieve clearer vision, fast recovery, and reduced dependence on glasses or contact lenses.
SMILE PACKAGE INCLUSIONS:
1. SMILE laser vision correction (both eyes, bilateral, simultaneous, same-day out-patient surgery)
2. Post-SMILE goggles
3. Post-SMILE ophthalmic medications
4. Post-SMILE follow-up visits for six months
SMILE PACKAGE EXCLUSIONS:
1. Refractive surgery suitability screening
2. Dry eye tests (Keratograph, Meibomian gland scan, Tear osmolarity)
3. Retina and optic nerve head tests (Clarus fundus photos, OCT macula, OCT optic nerve)

DETAILS
KLEX – RELEX SMILE LASER VISION CORRECTION
KLEx or ReLEx SMILE is a modern laser vision correction procedure that reduces or removes dependence on glasses and contact lenses. SMILE stands for Small Incision Lenticule Extraction. This minimally invasive technique reshapes the cornea using a femtosecond laser. As a result, it corrects myopia and astigmatism with high precision and strong safety outcomes.
WHAT THIS PROCEDURE DOES
KLEx – ReLEx SMILE improves vision by changing the shape of the cornea, which is the clear front window of the eye. First, the laser creates a thin disc of tissue inside the cornea called a lenticule. Then, the surgeon removes this lenticule through a very small incision. Consequently, the corneal shape changes and light focuses more clearly on the retina.
HOW SMILE DIFFERS FROM LASIK
Unlike LASIK, SMILE does not require a large corneal flap. Instead, it uses a small incision. Therefore, more of the corneal surface remains structurally intact. In addition, many patients experience less dryness after surgery. Because of this approach, SMILE appeals to patients with active lifestyles or higher myopia.
WHO MAY QUALIFY
This service may suit adults with stable eyeglass grades and healthy corneas. It is commonly used for the following:
1. Myopia or nearsightedness
2. Myopic astigmatism
3. Intolerance to contact lenses
4. Desire for flapless laser vision correction
However, suitability depends on detailed screening. Therefore, a comprehensive eye exam with corneal mapping and refraction is required before approval.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE PROCEDURE
SMILE is performed in a laser suite and usually takes only a few minutes per eye. First, numbing drops are applied. Next, the femtosecond laser creates the lenticule and incision. Then, the surgeon gently removes the tissue disc. Most patients report pressure but not pain. Vision often improves within days, although mild blur may occur early on.
RECOVERY AND AFTERCARE
Recovery is typically quick. Most patients return to routine tasks within a short time. Still, doctors prescribe eye drops to support healing and prevent infection. Follow-up visits remain important. Moreover, patients should avoid eye rubbing and water exposure early in recovery.
SAFETY AND LIMITATIONS
KLEx – ReLEx SMILE shows strong safety and predictability in peer-reviewed studies. Nevertheless, every surgical procedure carries risk. Possible effects include undercorrection, overcorrection, dry eye symptoms, glare, or infection. Rarely, enhancement treatment may be needed. Proper screening and adherence to aftercare reduce these risks significantly.
WHY EARLY EVALUATION HELPS
Early screening clarifies whether SMILE is the right option or if another laser method fits better. In many cases, tailored procedure selection produces better visual outcomes and higher patient satisfaction.
