The Sonomed Escalon UBM AI and ICL Guru is an advanced diagnostic imaging and analysis service that uses Ultrasound Biomicroscopy (UBM) combined with artificial intelligence–assisted interpretation to evaluate the front structures of the eye. It is designed to support precise planning and safety assessment for Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) procedures and other anterior segment conditions. This service provides high-resolution, cross-sectional images of structures that are not fully visible with standard examination methods.

UBM uses high-frequency ultrasound to visualize the cornea, anterior chamber, iris, ciliary body, lens position, and sulcus anatomy. The AI-assisted analysis layer helps enhance measurement accuracy and consistency, supporting evidence-based clinical decision-making.

CLINICAL USES

WHAT PATIENTS CAN EXPECT

The test is performed using a specialized ultrasound probe placed near the eye with appropriate sterile coupling fluid and topical anesthesia. The procedure is typically completed within several minutes per eye. Patients may be asked to lie down or recline during image capture. Mild temporary blur from the coupling medium can occur after the scan.

The procedure is non-incisional and does not use radiation. Discomfort is usually minimal.
