PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision from ZEISS is a software option for the CRS-Master® or Refractive Workplace® that combines perfectly with the MEL® 90 excimer laser from ZEISS. This software option offers a true binocular laser vision correction approach for patients with presbyopia.
ZEISS PRESBYOND combines the simplicity and accuracy of corneal refractive surgery with the benefits of increased depth of focus while retaining visual quality. Based on spherical aberrations, which naturally occur in the eye, it extends the scope of customized ablation beyond the limits of conventional monovision laser methods.

WHAT IS PRESBYOND
Presbyond Laser Blended Vision is an advanced form of laser vision correction designed for people with presbyopia, the age-related loss of near focusing ability that typically begins after age 40. It uses excimer and femtosecond laser technology to reshape the cornea and create a controlled difference between the two eyes, improving both distance and near vision while maintaining good depth perception.
Instead of making one eye fully for distance and the other fully for near, Presbyond creates a blended zone that allows the brain to combine images from both eyes for a more natural visual result.
WHO MAY BENEFIT
Presbyond may be suitable for selected patients who:
-
Are usually 40 years old or above
-
Have presbyopia with or without myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism
-
Want reduced dependence on reading glasses
-
Have healthy corneas and stable eye measurements
-
Pass full laser vision correction screening
Not all patients are candidates. Final eligibility depends on detailed examination and diagnostic testing.
HOW THE PROCEDURE WORKS
Presbyond is performed using laser vision correction platforms similar to LASIK. The treatment plan is customized using wavefront and corneal measurements.
General steps include:
-
Comprehensive eye screening including cycloplegic refraction and dilated retinal examination
-
Creation of a corneal flap or surface treatment depending on the chosen laser method
-
Laser reshaping of each cornea using a blended vision profile
-
Short outpatient procedure, usually for both eyes on the same day
The procedure typically takes only a few minutes per eye.
EXPECTED BENEFITS
Clinical studies and long-term outcomes of laser blended vision approaches show:
-
Improved distance and near vision without glasses in many patients
-
Better intermediate vision compared with traditional monovision
-
Higher patient satisfaction when properly selected and tested
-
Preserved binocular vision and functional depth perception
Results vary per individual and perfect spectacle independence cannot be guaranteed.
POSSIBLE RISKS AND SIDE EFFECTS
All laser vision correction procedures carry risks. These may include:
-
Dry eye symptoms
-
Glare, halos, or night vision disturbances
-
Under-correction or over-correction
-
Need for enhancement treatment
-
Reduced sharpness in very low light
-
Difficulty adapting to blended vision
Most side effects are temporary, but some may persist.
ALTERNATIVES
Reasonable alternatives include:
-
Reading glasses or progressive eyeglasses
-
Contact lenses or monovision contact lens fitting
-
Lens-based procedures such as refractive lens exchange
-
No treatment
A contact lens simulation is often recommended before surgery to test tolerance to blended vision.
PATIENT RESPONSIBILITIES AND CONSENT
You are required to provide complete and accurate medical history and attend all follow-up visits. You must follow all preoperative and postoperative instructions, including medication use and activity restrictions.
By proceeding, you acknowledge that outcomes vary, risks exist, and no guarantee of exact visual results can be made. This information sheet supports, but does not replace, a detailed informed consent discussion with your ophthalmologist.
For questions, discuss directly with your eye surgeon before making a decision.
