I-Pen Tear Osmolarity System
₱ 3,800.00
The I-Pen Tear Osmolarity System is a rapid, noninvasive diagnostic device used to measure tear osmolarity, which reflects the salt concentration of your tears. Tear osmolarity is one of the most reliable objective markers of dry eye disease. Therefore, this test helps your eye doctor confirm whether dry eye is present and how severe it may be. The test uses a small handheld sensor that gently touches the inner eyelid for a few seconds, without the need for tear collection strips or eye drops.

I-PEN TEAR OSMOLARITY SYSTEM
OVERVIEW
The I-Pen Tear Osmolarity System is a rapid, noninvasive diagnostic device used to measure tear osmolarity, which reflects the salt concentration of your tears. Tear osmolarity is one of the most reliable objective markers of dry eye disease. Therefore, this test helps your eye doctor confirm whether dry eye is present and how severe it may be. The test uses a small handheld sensor that gently touches the inner eyelid for a few seconds, without the need for tear collection strips or eye drops.
HOW THE TEST WORKS
The I-Pen Tear Osmolarity System measures the electrical properties of your tear film through a single-use sensor. As a result, it estimates tear osmolarity quickly and safely. The procedure usually takes less than one minute per eye. In most cases, patients feel only mild contact and no significant discomfort. Because the test does not require fluid removal, it reduces reflex tearing and improves measurement reliability.
WHY TEAR OSMOLARITY MATTERS
A healthy tear film keeps the eye surface smooth, clear, and comfortable. However, when tear balance becomes unstable, osmolarity rises. Consequently, higher osmolarity levels often indicate dry eye disease and ocular surface stress. By measuring this value, your doctor can detect dry eye earlier and classify its severity more accurately. This objective data supports more precise and personalized treatment planning.
WHO MAY BENEFIT
Your doctor may recommend I-Pen tear osmolarity testing if you have symptoms or risk factors for dry eye. For example, this test is useful for patients with:
1. Burning, stinging, or gritty eye sensation
2. Fluctuating or blurred vision
3. Contact lens discomfort
4. Heavy digital screen use
5. Autoimmune conditions or hormonal changes
6. History of refractive or cataract surgery
CLINICAL VALUE
Dry eye symptoms alone can vary from day to day. Therefore, symptom reports do not always match surface damage. Tear osmolarity testing adds an objective measurement to your evaluation. In addition, published peer-reviewed studies and clinical guidelines recognize tear osmolarity as a key biomarker in dry eye assessment. When combined with slit lamp examination and meibomian gland evaluation, results help guide evidence-based treatment decisions.
SAFETY AND COMFORT
The I-Pen Tear Osmolarity System uses sterile, single-use sensors for each eye. Thus, cross-contamination risk remains very low. The device does not deliver medication or energy into the eye. Instead, it performs a passive measurement. Most patients tolerate the test well, and normal activities can resume immediately afterward.
IMPORTANT NOTE
This diagnostic test supports clinical decision-making but does not replace a full eye examination. Your ophthalmologist will interpret the results together with your history, symptoms, and other findings. As a result, you receive a more accurate diagnosis and a targeted, medically appropriate dry eye management plan.
