OVERVIEW, TERMS & CONTACT INFO
DIEYAG is a precise laser treatment that disrupts unwanted epithelial cell growth inside the eye after surgery or injury. It offers a non-incisional option that may improve clarity and comfort while reducing the need for repeat surgery, depending on clinical findings.
Per eye, per location/island.
Local Anesthesia.
Out patient. Day surgery.

DETAILS
DISRUPTION OF INGROWN EPITHELIUM WITH ND:YAG LASER (DIEYAG)
Disruption of Ingrown Epithelium with Nd:YAG Laser, also called DIEYAG, is a precise, non-incisional laser procedure that treats epithelial ingrowth inside the eye. This condition happens when surface cells grow into areas where they do not belong, often after previous eye surgery or trauma. Because these cells can blur vision and cause irritation, early treatment is important. Therefore, DIEYAG offers a targeted and evidence-based solution.
HOW THE PROCEDURE WORKS
DIEYAG uses a focused Nd:YAG laser beam to break and disrupt unwanted epithelial cell nests without opening the eye again. Instead of repeating surgery, your ophthalmologist directs short laser pulses at the abnormal tissue. As a result, the abnormal cells lose their structure and stop spreading. The surrounding healthy tissue remains largely unaffected when proper targeting is used.
Moreover, the laser energy works at a microscopic level. This approach allows accurate treatment while reducing recovery time compared with repeat surgical scraping.
WHO MAY BENEFIT
This service may be recommended if examination shows epithelial ingrowth that threatens visual quality or corneal clarity. In many cases, doctors consider DIEYAG when:
1. Vision decreases after prior corneal or anterior segment surgery.
2. Slit lamp findings show advancing epithelial ingrowth.
3. Interface haze or irregularity affects daily activities.
4. A less invasive option is preferred before repeat surgery.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING TREATMENT
The procedure usually takes only a few minutes. First, anesthetic eye drops are placed for comfort. Next, a special contact lens may be positioned to improve laser focus. Then, the Nd:YAG laser delivers controlled pulses to the target area. Most patients report minimal discomfort and see light flashes during treatment.
Afterward, you can usually go home the same day. However, you must follow medication and follow-up instructions carefully.
BENEFITS AND LIMITATIONS
DIEYAG provides several advantages. It avoids a new incision, shortens downtime, and allows repeat treatment if needed. In addition, it can delay or prevent more invasive surgery in selected cases.
However, not all epithelial ingrowth responds equally. Some cases still require surgical removal. Your eye doctor will explain expected outcomes based on imaging and clinical findings.
SAFETY AND CLINICAL BASIS
Nd:YAG laser technology has a long track record in ophthalmology. When performed by a trained specialist, complication risk stays low. Still, possible side effects include temporary inflammation, pressure rise, or incomplete disruption. Because each eye differs, results vary.
This service supports individualized medical care. It does not replace a full eye evaluation, diagnosis, or personalized treatment plan. A detailed consultation remains necessary before proceeding.
